A scarred and weathered veteran of many a campaign, tree SW-I-1 is a Temple orange. More precisely, the Temple is a tangor— a hybrid of a tangerine and orange.
On this mid-to-late season bearer, the deep orange, intensely flavored fruit sweetens as it hangs on the tree into February or even March. We keep the old tree in our far southwest corner going just for a couple of dozen each year.
