SW-E-3 — Sapodilla (Campeche)

Campeche (cam-PAY-chay) is a rarely seen variety of sapodilla from the state of Campeche in far eastern Mexico. Ours was acquired from ECHO in Ft. Myers in May, 2012. It seems to be an upright grower and has been aggressively pruned to produce the pretty tree seen here. The medium-sized fruit has good flavor, and a reddish cast near the blossom end.
