What’s Fruiting

Black Sapote NW-C-2 anchors the northwest grove at SweetSong. It’s one of our oldest trees, planted in early 2012. It took a while to get cranked up, but it is now a good producer. We’ve eaten a dozen of its fruit already this fall, with more of varying sizes still …

Red Jaboticaba EG-B-7 produces almost continuously during warm weather. It’s a very sweet and delicious thin-skinned fruit. We started using bird netting, and now are getting a lot more fruit. This may get us up to some commercial production in 2018.

Imbe IM-1 produced its first fruit in early October. Imbe trees vary in fruit sweetness and the first two fruit were on the tart side. We hope they sweeten as the tree matures.

Our Big Jim longan fruit is ready to begin harvesting. Despite the dry winter, it produced heavily. We thinned out the fruit quite a bit, so the remaining ones should be large and juicy. It’s still getting tastier, and we are waiting for peak flavor to bring this year’s crop …

A small crop from our Persian lime tree NE-D-1 will be harvested this week for sale at Nature’s Partner at the Sarasota Farmer’s Market on Saturday August 26.
