The Lemon Meringue variety was brought to Florida from its native Myanmar by Maurice Kong, and growers often call it PPK, short for its Burmese name, Po Pyu Kalay. Its popular name, given by Gary Zill, evokes its extraordinary flavor— rich and sweet with citrus overtones. The developing fruit is somewhat subject to fungal damage, making is something of a challenge to produce.
Our Lemon Meringue mango, Tree NW-J-1, was acquired from Wayne Clifton in late 2015. After careful deliberation, it finally decided in 2020 to produce its first fruits.
