Tree NW-F-4 is a mature red navel orange tree, quite a bit smaller than NW-F-3. It came with our property, so its history is unknown.
The red navel, or Cara-Cara, is a mild-flavored, nearly seedless orange. Its pink coloration comes from carotenes, mainly phytoene, lycopene and phytofluene, rather than anthocyanins, which provide the deep red of blood oranges.
